Nazareth Creche is situated in a semi-developed area, south of Pinetown. When her daughter-in-law passed away in August last year; the elderly Mrs Francisca Ndlovu took over the running of this project. The building is situated close to her home which allows her to exercise the necessary control. The number of attending children increases every month although the building is still under renovation. The hours are very log: from 6am to 6pm, as the parents need to get an early start to get to work on time.

The creche was still in the process of being registered when the daughter-in-law died. Mrs Ndlovu, barely manages to meet the necessary requirements , such as morning porridge, on her pension income.

Since the help of the Co-Workers of Mother Teresa; headed by Jenny and Monica; Granny’s life has eased. Because the children are from very poor backgrounds; there is a need for the basics, such as: toys, chairs and nutritional food. Before, the children did not receive a balanced diet. The C0-Workers of Mother Teresa visit the creche twice a month; supplying whatever they can and also playing with the children. Letters of thanks and words of gratitude have been extended to their “Good Samaritans”; especially since a stove and pot were donated. These gifts signaled the end of misery and the beginning of hope. . .

On Sunday, 11 May, a farewell tea was held after Mass in Jackie Frara’s honour. Jackie had played the organ in our church for 23 years, as she tells us in her own words,
Jackie writes:

“I was born in 1926 and grew up in Underberg. I began playing piano at the age of 5, and took a piano exam upon finishing Matric. I first played the organ at Kloof Parish and then moved to Pinetown where I played for 23 years.
The first highlight was when I had received the Papal Medal and a Certificate from Rome and the second highlight for me was when we were told that the Mass was to be videoed for TV, but alas I did not appear in that video, but my husband George appeared more than once. I will always remember Shirley and the senior choir with fondest memories.

At the age of 81, I concluded my playing at the Church of the Immaculate Conception; I will miss playing the organ in Pinetown Parish.”

Update of the Nazareth Garden Project (this is a project of SVDP)
It is amazing, as to how much has been accomplished by the garden workers and interested parishioners, since the last report in March 2008. Watch this Space . . . for Fresh Vegetables for sale at our Vegetable Stall. (A Big Thank You to Fr. Justin, the SVDP and Parishioners who have made it all possible.)

For 3 consecutive days at the end of April, the garden workers underwent a comprehensive training programme. This was organised by Basil Vere of SVDP. The training was done by Newlands / Kwamashu Perma-Culture in conjunction with our SVDP. They received expert instruction as to what crops to plant in each season. Also how to do soil testing and fertilize correctly. A few plants were donated to kickstart the proceedings. Any ideas are still very welcome; and as this is a parish project; visitors, (both young and old), are most welcome. This is a parish project, by the community, for the community, for you, and for them. . .
