Pancakes in the piazza 1

Tuesday 5 February 2008 - We celebrated Shrove Tuesday under a heavy sky. With Lent beginning the next day (Ash Wednesday), it seemed appropriate that our time of merriment would be short lived. However, even the excessive traffic jams could not stop the last enjoyable social activity before Lent. The pancakes, cooked by the new Confirmation candidates, kept on coming fast and furious until everyone had had their fill. There was a great feeling of koinonia as people shared their 'fillings'. The heat in the kitchen must have stimulated the cooks' creativity, as some of the pancakes arrived with smiley faces, crosses and other symbols cooked into them. A big thank you to Chris Archary and those behind the scenes for a most enjoyable evening.

Sunday 3 February 2008 - After Mass there is an opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, while socialising with friends and visitors. This Sunday was no exception, under the warm February sunshine.

Friday 1 February 2008 - Approximately 30 people attended the first Bingo evening of the year. As always the lucky draw prizes were great, with most people's eyes on the bottle of 10 year old whiskey, that managed to escape being won until the last draw. The jackpot was not won (again), and so rolls over, a little heavier, until next time. The next Bingo evening will commence after Lent on Friday, April 4th. Bring your friends and family, beacause the greater the attendance, the greater the individual 'pots'. During the Lentan break, the organiser, Marty Strydom, will be welcomed into our church community on the Easter Vigil.

Photo's from the last Bingo evening (Christmas 2007) may be seen on: http://picasaweb.google.com/pinetown.catholicchurch/Bingo   - If you would like to assist with captions or identify any of the folk in the pics, add your comments in the space below each photo.

The last lucky draw, (the whiskey), was won by Martin and Rinda McArthur's son, Jared. I overheard him negotiating with his dad, to swop it for a box of chocolates. I wonder who got the better deal.
