We have a group of 13 wonderful, generous ladies and gents who selflessly give of their time and talents cooking for families who are in need. The need may be temporary, like cooking for someone after they have had an operation; or helping someone after they have lost a loved one or even lost their job. It can also be providing more regular meals for those who are too frail to manage, and do not have family readily available. At present we are providing between 2 and 4 meals per week to various people.
We cook on a roster basis and then deliver the meals to the recipients concerned. Besides helping others, it has also given us the opportunity to meet and form friendships with other people we might otherwise not have met. It has also been a source of comfort to those on the receiving end, to chat with the cook when she delivers the meal and to know that they are cared about and loved.
I would like to thank ALL our hardworking, caring wonderful cooks for everything that they do for those for whom they provide meals. Thank you for always saying, “Yes, sure I will”, when I phone you, especially as so many of you also work. You are just amazing and I feel privileged to be part of our group!
If anyone would like to join our fantastic ministry, please don’t hesitate to phone me at home: 031 7023882

Robyn and Shea get down to business
BINGO, BINGO, BINGO - 5 December 2008
As the year draws to an end, so do many of our regular functions, one being our bingo evenings, the last of which was a bumper gathering.
As usual, Marty and Charmaine have again succeeded in bringing a whole lot of fun and smiles to the faces of all who attended. There were prizes donated by all the regular donors and then extra prizes from new sources.
It never ceases to amaze me as to the amount of work that goes into the preparation for an evening like this. We know that prizes are needed for each draw - there are eleven lucky draws by the way - and we are also aware that they need to be collected and packaged. Do we realise that there are endless phonecalls that need to be made in order to secure these donations. I must admit that I often forget this aspect as it is easier to think that the prizes are just donated and that they somehow just appear - perhaps father Christmas brings a whole year's supply and dumps them down Marty's chimney once a year and all they do is divide them into 12 groups and "bob's your uncle".
Anyhow, winning one of these hampers, however they got there, is always fun, as children at birthday time or at Christmas, faces become animate as people try to look through the celophane paper to see just what is inside the package. What pleasure. Also, try winning one of the "pots" and walking up to collect your treat without a wiggle in your walk or a song in your heart. Virtually impossible.
I encourage all to join in the fun. You may not walk off with any of the "pots" or prizes but I can assure you, you will go home with the blessing of meeting someone new and a feeling of belonging to a wonderful community in Christ. A visitor, Jody Myburg joins in the fun |
